CORE SPORTS
PUKDS will be providing sporting opportunities in a range of Core Sports, these sports will become the backbone of the organisation, where our teams will participate in regular training, events and competitions.
There will also be a wide variety of other sports and activities available at events, which will provide attendees the opportunity to try out various sports in coach led taster sessions all over the UK.
It is the Core Sports where PUKDS will enter the National Leagues in affiliation with National Governing Bodies.
Exhibition Matches and Tournaments
To raise awareness and promote disability sport in the police community nation wide, PUKDS will organise a number of exhibition matches and tournaments all over the UK against national league teams and even national teams in preparation for major national and international events.
These events will be FREE to attend, both for participating teams and spectators.
Community Engagement
PUKDS encourage all of it's members to participate in their local community sports clubs as doing so will not interfere with their commitments to play sport for PUKDS, we will endeavor to stage events that work around the dates of the national leagues and competitions.
PUKDS Regional Sports Hierarchy
The UK has been divided in to 14 regions, based on the Home Office Police Force Areas.
Members are able to select which region they would like to compete for, based on a criteria;
Have previously worked in that force area
Currently work in that force area
Currently live in that force area
PUKDS Home Nations
Teams for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are selected annually to compete in the Home Nations Cup which will be held across three tournament style weekends throughout the year. The Nation with the the highest points from each sport will be announced the Home Nations Champions.
PUKDS Team UK
The highest level of Police Disability Sport will be competing for Team UK at National and International Championships against other nations police disability teams both at home and overseas.
Team UK competitors are selected from the Home Nations Team annually by a selection board made up from the Home Nations Head Coaches.
The Head Coach for Team UK will rotate through the Head Coaches of the Home Nations Teams.
Regional Sports Teams National Leagues
The PUKDS National Leagues will be annual and be the platform for the Regional Sports teams to compete against each other.
The 14 Regional Teams will be divided in to 3 Divisions.
Division 1 - 4 teams
Division 2 - 5 teams
Division 3 - 5 teams
League meetings will be held on 3 occasions throughout the year, where the teams will play each team in their division in a single day.
After the 3 league meetings the divisions standing will be as follows;
Division 1 last place will be relegated to Division 2
Division 2 winner will be promoted to Division 1
Division 2 last place will be relegated to Division 3
Division 3 winner will be promoted to Division 2
Regional Individual Sports Championships
Players will meet throughout the year at 3 events where they will play tournament style matches against other players in their classification.
This is a last player standing format.
Regional Athletics Championships
An Annual Regional Athletics Championships will be held where all athletes will compete in their classification in their chosen events.
PUKDS Home Nations
The Home Nations teams will compete in an Annual Home Nations Cup, which will be held at a Multi-Sport Event where all sports will be competed in over a weekend. Team and Individual sports will be a tournament format where teams will play each other twice and be awarded points for winning the match, with the 2 teams having the most points will play for 1st and 2nd place, with the bottom two nations on points playing for 3rd place.
Who Qualifies for Adaptive/Disability Sport?
Serving and Retired police officers and staff from any UK police force, including MOD.
Those who have a physical impairment/disability, live with a medical condition, long term injury or illness, mental health or be neurodiverse. The type of disability or impairment will determine your classification for competing in various sports. Each sports classification will differ slightly based on the actions required to play that sport.
