Wheelchair Basketball Match
The PUKDS Wheelchair Basketball Team took to the court on Saturday 29th June a team of Armed Forces Veterans, in celebration of Armed Forces Day.
The match took place during the first day of the Police Sport UK National Police Basketball Championships at Worcester University, being hosted by West Mercia Police.
This is the first time in the history of Police Sport in the UK where an adaptive sport has featured at a national championships.
PUKDS is extremely proud to be able to bring events such as this, to support the veterans community. The PUKDS board is made up of Armed Forces Veterans, all of whom have competed in the Invictus Games, so it is important for PUKDS to support all Armed Forces Veterans, in particular those from a police background.
The teams faced of in two 15 minute halves, officiated by British Wheelchair Basketball Referees with live commentary on the UKPB YouTube Channel.
With the teams almost tied at half time, the Police team took the lead with a fantastic shot, then turning the ball over straight after and scoring again to pull away for a 33 - 28 win.
The organisers have invited us back for 2025, where we will have the opportunity to stage a four team tournament on the Sunday.
