Wheelchair Basketball Match
The PUKDS Wheelchair Basketball Team took to the court on Saturday 1st June against the London Titans.
This event was hosted by the Titans at their training venue, where players from a mix of their national league teams welcomed the PUKDS team in a series of training drills and two competitive friendly matches.
The PUKDS team has never played together prior to this event, and although each of the players has had previous experience in the sport, the team has not yet had an opportunity to train.
Neither the Titans nor PUKDS knew what to expect from this newly formed team, so the outcome was far better than ever expected.
The PUKDS team looked like a team that had played many times before, each of the players instantly working out each others strengths and weaknesses on court and adapting their way of playing to work as a team to put an impressive score on the board in both games.
Each minute that passed saw improvement in movement, awareness of fellow team mates, passing and shooting.
But the well oiled machine of the mighty London Titans was too great to overcome, with both match wins going to the Titans.
Overall a fantastic introduction to the sport for the police team.
We have come away from this event with a relationship in the sport that will build towards more matches, tournament style events and mutual aid for other events.
The PUKDS team is now looking towards entering the Inspire League next season where we will be taking on a number of established clubs from all, over the UK.
"Great practice matches with Titans helping PUKDS on their journey to grow wheelchair basketball into their national competitions" Vice Chair, Premier Coach and Player, Matt Sealy, London Titans.
